Early 2025: Taking Pre-Orders Now!
Farm fresh pork is an excellent choice for most people. First, our pigs are raised in a happy environment with room to play. They are fed high quality, locally produced food and given extra treats almost every day. Beyond all this, we do NOT give our pigs any antibiotics or other additives that you will see in most grocery stores. In big box stores, your ground meat will contain meat from dozens and maybe more animals. Your meat from us will be from a single animal. Buying in bulk typically compares with chain store prices yet it has all the advantages listed above. Finally, you are supporting a small, local family farm.
It is our goal to make this process as easy as possible for you. First you will choose what you want to purchase, 1/2 or a whole hog. Once you make that choice we will require a $100 deposit. At some point prior to delivery date the processor will contact you and go over all the options and you will choose how you want your meat cut and packaged. We will work with you to arrange pickup or delivery (fee required) once your meat is ready. NOTE: We are only selling you the pig itself. We will deliver it to the processor on your behalf. You will pay the processor directly for their services.
This really depends on how big your pig is at the time of processing. We aim for a 250lb pig however the final weight cannot be guaranteed. You pay us based on "Hanging" weight which is usually 70% (give or take) of the live weight. From there the pig will be processed and packaged. Your take home weight will be less than the hanging weight due to meat being removed from bones. Typically take home weight is 50% of LIVE weight (80% or hanging weight), again approximately.
You will be responsible for two (3 if delivery is arranged) payments. One will go to the processor directly and the cost will vary based on how you want your pig processed (Typically $150 or so). You will also pay us the per pound hanging weight cost ($4.50/lb for 1/2 hog, $4.25/lb for whole hog, hanging weight) minus your deposit. Only other fee would be delivery if we have worked that out ahead of time.
If you want simple, basic cuts with no sausage/smoked pieces it may only cost .50-.60 per pound. If you want sausages, bacon, etc. your cost will go up. The process is very easy as the the processor (We use Jerome's Market) will call you and go over everything with you. You can see the option's they provide by viewing the form on their website: Hog Processing - Jerome Country Market (jeromecountrymarketllc.com)
